Callisto spectrum measurement at Humain station ROB

چکیده

During a measurement campaign in May 2006 spectrum measurements were done at Humain station in Belgium. Humain is part of the ROB (Royal Observatory of Belgium) located south of Brussels, capital of Belgium. Measurements were done with a broadband logarithmic periodic antenna connected to a Callisto spectrometer designed and built by ETH Zurich, see (Benz, Monstein and Meyer, 2005). This measurement campaign shall be the technical basis to decide how to continue concerning fixed frequency measurements and also spectroscopic measurements below 1GHz. The results are presented in total overviews as well as in form of a digital zoom on the most interesting frequencies ranges. An extreme difference in polarization was detected. While horizontal polarization leads to acceptable results, vertical polarization can not be used by Callisto spectrometer because the power level is too high and therefore produces cross modulation.

Thermal infrared spectroscopy of Europa and Callisto

The trailing hemispheres of Europa and Callisto were observed at 913/•m, and a spectrum of Europa with better spectral resolution and a better signal-to-noise ratio than was previously possible has been derived. The ratio spectrum of the two satellites has a signal-to-noise ratio of approximately 30 for a spectral resolving power of approximately 50. The disk-integrated, effective color tempera...

The Galilean satellites.

NASA's Galileo mission to Jupiter and improved Earth-based observing capabilities have allowed major advances in our understanding of Jupiter's moons Io, Europa, Ganymede, and Callisto over the past few years. Particularly exciting findings include the evidence for internal liquid water oceans in Callisto and Europa, detection of a strong intrinsic magnetic field within Ganymede, discovery of h...

Ionosphere of Callisto from Galileo radio occultation observations

[1] An ionosphere has been detected at Callisto by the Galileo spacecraft, using the radio occultation technique. There were four usable occultations by Callisto, providing eight observation opportunities, all equatorial and near the terminator (entry and exit observations). Detectable electron densities were obtained from six of the eight opportunities. It was found that a detectable ionospher...

Constraints on an Outer Solar System Late Heavy Bombardment from Callisto’s Interior

Introduction: One difficulty in explaining the lunar late heavy bombardment (LHB) lies in identifying a source of impactors that survives at ~3.8 to 4 Gyr, so long after planet formation [1,2]. A leading theory is that the LHB was triggered by events in the outer solar system [3,4]. Any model that invokes an outer solar system source for the lunar LHB will also produce an intense bombardment on...

Subsurface Oceans on Europa and Callisto: Constraints from GalileoMagnetometer Observations

Magnetic field perturbations measured during Galileo flybys of Europa and Callisto are consistent with dipole fields induced by the temporal variations of the ambient jovian magnetospheric field. These fields are close to those expected for perfectly conducting moons. We investigate the implications of these observations for the electrical structure of the moon’s interiors using a simple shell ...
